Honey bees actively regulate the temperature of their hive at approximately 90°F (32°C). When a colony is killed with insecticides, the bees can no longer cool and maintain the hive.
During hot weather, the beeswax comb begins to soften and melt. As the comb collapses, honey, wax, pollen, and brood can seep into walls, ceilings, floors, and insulation, causing stains, odors, and structural damage.
